1Hz engine. No turbo or supercharger..my pig can't fly :)
Well it sounds like it from time to time with the air con on. No pig with the button off.
Now it's intermittent, but always comes along when the air con is being used.
I'm leaning towards the compressor bearing? Or would the noise be there all the time in that case?
It's not liable to be the belt I suppose ?
TIA guys.

Try some dry lube on the belt. Or tighten it.

To check if it is the belt just spray a little water on it. If it is the belt the noise will stop immediately.
Then try tightening it a bit but it may still squeal.

I thougt that the belt would tighten when the air con clutch engaged ? No?
I'll try the belt tighten tomorrow and see if the pig is greased :)

It could be the idler pully. With the A/C on it puts a bit more load on the pully.

If you do it your self the cost of the pully, last time I bought one was about $45.

Thats a couple of years ago, there easy to do a 14 mm spanner a 14 mm socket and off you go.

Cheers Steve.

Footy

If you can press the old bearing out and I think from memory they are retained in the pulley with a couple of stakes, you could buy a new bearing for about $5 and refit

Thanks, Pop, but that would be a mech job. My workshop facilities are about 2 steps better than the kitchen table whilst my hands on mech knowledge is...well...can I just say neglected? LOL

Hey footloose,

There is a step by step guide on the LCOOL site if you want to give it a try, worst case scenario is you buy a new tensioner anyway! Not a huge job to have a crack at.

Cheers,

Ross.
