I am sick of the crappy car horns that do little to scare stray animals (sometimes pedestrians) off the road. I will be travelling around Australia in July and wonder if anyone has fitted a decent horn (air or otherwise) to a Prado. I don't want a musical version, just one that scares the crap out of wandering stock.

Those Stebel air horns look sweet. I will have to get one (or two) for the Cruiser - just to be one of 'those' 4WD drivers we keep reading about ;)

Normally I get triple or quad Italian air horns - normal car horns don't cut it when your bearing down on a flock a Galahs out in the scrub or when some idiot can't make his/her mind up which lane they like better.

Yeah, im the same, and knowing that I ordered airhorns before the new car showed up (70series TDV8 GXL) now I got a set of airhorns just sitting on the bench............'cause there is no where to fit the bloody things in the 70.

Cheers.............BIGDOG

Compressor + tank + truck air horns, nothing beats them.
Use a seperate button to activate so you can still use the normal feeble thing if just waking someone up at the lights.

The Stebel Air horns are awesome, very compact, will fit where the original horn was, very very loud, only need one set as they are a dual hi/lo set. Highly recommend them.

Hi avan

Agree with those above the stebel nautilus is the way to go - small easy to install compressor and horn in one package - to get clean air for the compressor and improve its life you have to run a tube into the air cleaner or into the cab - i just poked mine under the floor mat.

Hope this helps

PS put them onto 2 gs bikes as well - stops the blind drifting lane changers in their tracks

this has been on here before, sounds like the nautilus is the go. did find another though, it is out of the US, called "The Hammer" or something like that, you can get it in triple or quad air horns, at 150psi it does a bit over 150db. love to get one but I think it'd give some poor b_____d a heart attack!!!

I hope your not serios about using the horn on wildlife?
You only lay on the horn for a roo/emu etc you WANT to hit.
When younger we specifically sourced a big klaxon horn for the spotlighting rig for that exact reason. When racing to cut roos/emus/foxes/rabbits from the fencline between the paddock and bush a good blast would confuse them and get them to do a 180 (sometimes not always but pretty often) back in into the padock. they can even make the bush and turn back into danger out of confusion.
so ill say it again
- Never lay on the horn when trying to avoid animal strikes

If you want a pair of good horns just go down to your local Wrecker & get a pair of horns off a NA Series Fairlane/LTD . I have them on my Cruiser & have a spare pair in my garage for future use. You will need a relay as they draw more power than the horns on Jap vehicles. I think Ford spares sell them pretty cheap also. I go out West alot & the Roo's now tend to get out of the way when congregated on the side of the road with a good blast.

I've got a pair of air horns with the trumpets (15" and 12" long) mounted in behind the right-side wing of the bullbar. They have solenoids which I've linked to the standard horn via a 2 way switch (so I can turn them off if I don't want to wake the dead). They are fed compressed air from the air receiver tank that i keep topped up all the time with the MaxAir.

Those Nautilus units sound (pun!!??) like they might be a good bit of gear too.......

So, it's Ok to scare the bleep out of your kids while they are crossing in front of you.

And it's ok to blast your little old lady mother into the sky. Because, after all, it's just fun, isn't it?

Well, give me her address.

Paul

If you really want everything esp cattle to move get a siren from a ambulance or fire engine going offline. That works . Nothing else works on everything. Gods Honour.

Mate of mine about 20 years ago fitted a fog horn from a lighthouse. (His old man was a lighthouse mechanic). He put it under the bonnet of an XA falcon. If you can find one of these demonic things,I guarantee everyone and everything within 10kms will know where you are!!!! Definately the loudest noise I've ever heard. :)
