I wanted to use a fly over my
southern cross settler canvas tent mainly to help keep it cool. I am wondering what experience others have had using the silver poly tarp. The one I have been looking at is the OZ trail Uvtex poly tarp. silver one side green the other.
The other alternative is a canvas fly which I think wont make as much noise. There are canvas tarps from Pakistan and at a reasonable price on E bay.
What has been your experience ?

I use the same tarps on my C/t & find them good. Sourced from Ebay. They do make things cooler & prevent wet packups too.
I find oco straps very useful to assist tie down & stop flapping.
Another trick is to fold each half to the centre in such a way that assists spreading once you have pulled it over tent. You can easily add eyelets should you need to prevent poles damaging tarp.
cheers...oldbaz.

I have used those tarps for 5 yrs now and I swear by them. I use them as a living area and set them up over the tent to protect from rain UV birdpoo etc. They are definitely cooler underneath. I put the tarp up first then set the tent up underneath.
