I went in the other day to Supercheap to get a winch extension strap.

I noticed they have (1) 4WD Recovery Strap (2) Winch Extension Strap (3) Webbing Tow Strap and (4) A Snatch Strap. The guy there didn't know the difference

I know about the Snatch strap - but is there any difference between the others. They all look the same so is there a real difference or is it a marketing ploy to get you to spend more.

Look forward to your answers

...first question you should be asking yourself is why are you buying a winch extension strap from SuperCheap. It's a recovery tool that will be used in situations where peoples lives could literally depend on the item being a quality product.

I recall in one of the snatch strap tests, the SuperCheap 8000kg snatch strap was recommended, because it broke over 8000kg, but the 9000kg strap didn't even get to half of it's rating before snapping! Best off sticking to a known brand, rather than the lucky dip of chinese imports you're likely to find there.

You may be right - however I'm pretty sure these got an excellent write up a few months (middle of last year) in 4WD Acon.

My understanding these (Tow 2 Go) straps are in fact made in NZ.

Appreciate your comment, I'll check them out in a little more detail.

I stuck my head in today - they do have the Tow 2 Go ones which had a good writeup. They also had a "winch extension strap" with a bloody chrome carabiner on one end, and tow straps with unrated mini shackles. The Tow 2 Go stuff is alright though from the tests.

Hi Terry, This one should crack you up [or make you cry]

About 2 years ago I was in S/C buying a couple of plastic jerry cans. Decided to check out the 4wd section. A very eager and helpful young lad asked if i needed some help.
He wasnt too sure what I was talking about when I spoke of a recovery point till I pointed to a snatch strap and said "what that hooks on to".

He immediately ducked off and returned with a chrome tow ball saying that the chrome one was stronger than the black one.

I thanked him for his help and enthusiasm, then went around the corner to ARB.

Still have a giggle to myself even to this day.

Cheers.....Lionel.

Do as Lionel did , go to ARB or TJM and a product that won't let you down when it's needed most.

SuperCheap speak with fork tongue
Lionel speak with straight tongue
