Hi
I've just bought a honda ex350 generator (2 stroke) 2nd hand in great condition. What can I realistically expect expect this generator to power? Will it power a bar fridge, battery charger, lighting (flouros)?? According to the manual specs are rated output 300VA, max 350VA
How much should I have paid for it?
It only has an output of 4 amps at 12v (manual says 6 amp) and am wondering if there is any way to increase this?
Thanks Kc

My brother recently gave me a Honda ex350, and although we haven't put it to the
test yet, it seems to run fine. I've just played around at
home with it with lights etc. We'll be putting it to the
test this Winter when, after fishing & crabbing at Groper Ck., we'll be heading to
Rubyvale to
camp out on the
gemfields for a few weeks. I only intend to use it as a battery charger cum back up. Cheers.

Hi, Kc , Just a few "facts" on the Honda EX 350. I have had one for 14 years and have really tested it out.
It will run 2 Engle friges and a 150w portaflood,( out bush) or 2 portafloods ,
They put out 100 watt DC which will charge your battery Ok , it will put in enough to start a falcon in 10 mins ( flat , no dash lights) ,
But you have to watch that it does not over charge, it will run a small K mart battery charger as
well.
we run our's on 50 to 1 mix Stihl chainsaw oil. runs clean and no smoke , will run just on 4 hrs on a tank of fuel ( 0.7ltr from memory) also when finished using ( to store ) always tip out the last of the fuel and then run it on low until it stops , then next time put in fresh fuel and I bet it will start second pull even 6 month later.
I paid $800.00 when I got it , but worth every penny.
You can carry it in side when full of fuel just make sure you lock the cap vent.
Cheers Des.

Hi, I notice some one talking sine waves etc for fridges . we have been using ours every year ( 14) a couple of weeks or more at a time and it has not hurt the Engels.
mine is 14 years old and mates is 29 years old.
Also when ( if ) we have a power black out at
home I run a light and the sml Tv of it , you cant even hear it running under the back verandah, and it wont worry the next doors either.
I did read of a chap who's battery died out bush and he tied the Honda on the bullbar and ran it to the crook battery and it got him to where he could get a new one.
Cheers Des.

Hi Des
Thanks for the tips.
The pure sine wave was in reference to a small 240 volt bar fridge. Have you ever tried running one from your generator?
thanks Kc

Hi KC , no I have not tried it on my 70ltr bar fridge but when I fire it up June long weekend I will put it on and try it,
I have found it is a lot better to cool the engel down on the power before we go, then it holds it easily.
I reckon it would probabley run the bar fridge if it was already cold.
Cheers Des.

Hi Des
I would be interested to hear how you go. I was talking to the brotherinlaw today who is into electronics and he thinks my electronic power meter (ex Jaycar $39.95) may not be showing the true peak power drawn by the fridge at startup. Does your Kmart battery charger connected to the 240 output put more charge into the battery than the generator DC output which is supposed to put out 6 Amp?
regards Kc
