We are going back for our second Simpson crossing this year. West to east, but I am after advise on which tracks to take. Last time we travelled the French track, WAA Line and back up the Knolls track. We are thinking of going down to the Rig road from Lynnie Junction off the WAA, and then back up Knolls track again for something different. We tend to prefer a challenge over an easy run and will have 5 capable vehicles / drivers. Open to suggestions here.

Hi psproule
If you are preferring a challenge, the Rig Road is the easiest track to follow through the Simpson. Have you thought coming from the east to the west via the French Line? As you know, the nature of the dune make the eastern face a steeper challenge rather than the west face, which is often cut up. It does not matter which way you travel the desert, it is still a great place to visit.

Cheers

Now that looks interesting - will investigate further although it may be a little late for this trip.

Hi Pat,
I think the WAA line is the most challenging of alll the tracks. It has the least amount of traffic and lots of variety. (which the French line seems to lack). East to West is definitely the more challinging course (apart from Big Red).I have only gone West to East however had to backtrack for quite a few kms when something fell off my roof. The dunes were much steeper this way.
Enjoy your trip Pat.
We are doing Googs on Tuesday next week so heopefully the weather cools down a bit

The eastern end of the rig road between Knolls track and the K1Line is good fun - tends to be a lot of loose sand on top of the dunes especially early in the season.

Thanks for all the replies folks, It's back to Oziexplorer for a bit more plotting. I will also talk to the group about an east to west crossing instead.
