Hi everyone, first post for me - here goes.
Can anyone confirm whether this track is still open, or has it been closed to the public (as i have been told it has)

G'day Dozer. I hope you're wrong about this, because I was hoping to head out there myself in a couple of weeks. Thought it might be a bit more peaceful than the old telegraph line, as it appears that half the people on this
forum will be on their way to the tip!! Have you rung the
mapoon community at 07-40909124, as they give out access and camping permits. Post a follow-up if you have a win would you. I'll do likewise if I find anything out. Good Luck. Tim.

Hi Tim, i havnt tried to contact anyone yet. Friends said they read in 4x4 monthly that the place was trashed by some thoughtful people, and has been closed off as a repocussion. Was hoping someone living in the area (on this list) can give a better appraisal.Have emailed a tour operator out of
Cairns that i know aswell.

Hey Dozer and Tim
This info is in the trip planning section on this site--
WE HAVE JUST LEARNED THAT ACCESS TO SKARDON RIVER IS NOW ILLEGAL DUE TO BEING LOCATED WITHIN THE KAOLIN MINING LEASE.
Access was recently closed "in consultation with the traditional owners after tourists left the
camp area like a pigsty and stole fuel and other items from the
mine."
For further information please contact: Leigh Gould, Registered
Mine Manager Skardon River Kaoline Pty Ltd on 0409 565 797 or email to: leighgould@
cairns.akl.com.au
I don't know how old this information is but would advise contacting the person named above before you head out.
Heading up the Cape myself in a fortnight.
Johno
