Paul, there's a big differential between the price of a 9500 and a 9505A, around 3-600$. Good 9500's are becoming hard to find.
Bits are easier to find for the 505A, eg batteries etc.
Not sure where you'd find one in Melb but good luck.

There's a couple on ebay at the moment....
Item# 260217818333 is a 9505A (located in
Perth, postage $18.00)..Currently at $929.00 with a little over 1½ days to run..
Item # 250224639459 is a 9505, located in
Omeo (Vic).. Starting price $900.00 (no bids yet) with a little under a week to run...
Up to you if you wish to consider either of these;-))

Why don't you look at buying a new one and getting the Fed Govt subsidy - you don't have to live anywhere remote just be
wanting to use it where there is no mobile reception. That's how we bought ours - and we use Motorola (not Globalstar).

I applied for the rebate, and was refused because you have to be in the "remote" area for a minimum of 180 days of the year over a two year period, and that is hard to justify. I have been given an appeal term, but can't offer any further information to them that would help.
If you have any tricks that don't involve lying to the Government, I would be pleased to learn them, because the subsidy is definitely worth getting if possible.
Cheers
Ian

Timing might be everything ...
I am about to sell my 9500, which I thought I would put on eBay. Only used once (in anger) when I busted a cv joint 40km out of
Adelaide River.
If you want details/pics, drop me an email at jeller @ tadaust . org .au but just leave out the spaces.
