Does anyone have any ideas on carrying a gas bottle on a roofrack safely and which can be removed easily?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andrew,
Have a look at opposite lock's website and search for rackmaster accessories. You might be able to make one of their gas bottle holders fit your rack.

Rob I had a look recently at the Rackmaster gas bottle holders as I have a Rackmaster roof rack. Problem is that the gas bottle holder will not suit all gas bottles. If you are interested in their holders take your bottle in like I did. They do not have a holder for a 9kg bottle and my 4.5kg bottle was about 12mm to large in diameter for their largest holder clamps.

I use the milk crate and occy straps but have the milk crate inside canvas bag made by In Front canvas. Keeps dust out of the valves etc. You end up with a couple of holes in the bottom of the bag where you screw the crate down to the roof rack but otherwise adds a bit more security.

Cheers. Mick

P.S. Photo of the Patrol on the rig page shows it on the top left hand side of the roof rack. The milk crates also fit a square 20 litre water container perfectly.
