No worries
Laura, your new camper looks like many happy trips away to be had! Still battling the heat here for another cou[le of days, then a temp drop to about 21 instead of 39's!!
Heading out into the scrub camping tomorrow again, been here at Laanecoorie Resort for the last 3 days, for some R&R and washing, swimming etc. Been looked after very
well here by Jimmy & his wife Robyn.

Australian Mynah?
Yes I noticed quite a few in my bird bath here in
Melbourne - I top it up each day for both the "birds and the bees" :) Seem to get quite a few of both of them. Must be a hard time for them in the current conditions :( Haven't seen the owls for a year or two though :(

Hi Mike, we had a Tawny Frogmouth here 2 nights ago, but he's dissapeared somewhere. He was great to watch him feed at night.

Think u will find that its an Indian/Asian mynah ,, a declared pest here in Qld , they actually "gang" up and drive native species out of large areas,,

May I shed some light on the subject.
The bird in picture is a Noisy Miner.
Noisy Miner
The Asian or Indian Myna is a different species.
Indian Myna
Cheers Steve.

Uncle
I fill up the dog's water bowl each morning. Recently I've come
home and found it empty........bit of head scratching!
Last weekend found the cause. Bloody Asian Minors having a bird bath.
Now we won't go into my feelings about this Introduced species other than to say a .243 would be an over kill.
There's a green way next to my house which is a haven for birds, including Cockatoos.
Haven't seen them there for two year, and now the Gums are looking a bit sick.
Let's hope for some good winter and spring rains.
Regards
Kim

The bird in the picture above is a Aussie native "Noisy Minah" ..not an Asian Minor (the nasty illegal immigrants) ..just in case you were confused.
Don't want you getting stuck into these little beauties with an air rifle by mistake.
I saw a Kookaburra catch and kill a Noisy Minah last week. We don't like Koooka's

OK Spelling corrections (I've had a couple of reds)
The Aussie native (in
pic above) is a Noisy Miner ..the nasty import (from India - similar looooking, but with brown feathers) is the Indian Myna or Mynan.
And it matters because ...?
Well, I'm sure the Miners care.
..er, where's that bottle ...

That looks like one of my noisy miners. Have lots of the noisies here in SE Qld. They come in during the evening and have a drink and swim in me bird bath - I always keep it
well filled as they are splashy little beggars and not afraid to take on the bigger birds like butcherbirds maggies and cuckoos.
Lovely photo.
cheers

Alice Springs fine and 45!!!!!!!

It's been over 40C in
Melbourne today and I currently have an Eastern Spinebill languishing in my birdbath - he's been there for about 15 minutes and the poor chap looks about done in. Unfortunately I was just about to refill the bath with cool water when he appeared so he's trying to offload heat into 30C+ water.
Be good if people would put some water out for the birds.
