As being a a/c mechanic, The only 2 sugestions i can make is.
1. Buy a good brand Mitsubishi - daikin - actron , as dear as you can afford
2.Unless you are willing to spend big for an oversized inverter, dont buy one at all,,Must be slightly oversized for temperature to lower enough for compressor to ramp down

What make Mitsubishi so good???
I live in a brand new house and the bloody thing
broke down in the first week. Just like the next door neighbour, the one next to him, the one across the road, the one from other friends up the road.
I am still waiting for the useless bloody techs to get off there asses and fix it. I have been waiting over 8 weeks now. Some of the neighbours have been waiting since late November for them to fix it.
Rant over
Cheers Kev

Kev, there are two types of Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
I wouldn't buy the later one.
personal preference is for Daikin

All the crapped out AC's are the Mitsubishi Electrics ones.
All the AC's that have died are from the same installer/builder, and advice from Mitsubishi is that the so called tech did not properly seal them when installing.
Cheers Kev

I've got quotes from $10-14000 to do 4bedrooms & kit/dining/lounge. Two are Daikin, one Actrol and one Pioneer. All 16KW I think. Will sort it out next week.

Actron...Pioneer?..bloomin hell imho they are crap compared to Mitsubishi Electric ( not to be confused with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) and Daikin....
APAC (Carrier) ducted systems are very good also
Temperzone are a good compromise

G'day Nudie,
I have an APAC sitting about 2 metres away from me outside and it is doing a fantastic job in this hot weather. ( must admit it is quite a bit oversizes LOL)
I wouldn't touch one of the carrier high wall splits for quids.
have to agree on the Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric.
