Great idea, there is already a National 4WD Gathering held bi-annually, it's next year in Broken Hill, last year it was at Tillmouth Well. I don't know if you are aware of this or not? Could make the ExploreOz thing a bit within that event or something like that I don't know how you feel about that. I don't know if I'll get to Broken Hill never mind anything else and thats bi-annual.Keep the shiny side up

Sounds like a brilliant idea.
Maybe base it on the pyramid factor ie. Each States' members (everybody that uses exploroz) has a meeting in their state once a year at the same time and then have an annual one in the dead center as you mentioned. Chain of command type stuff.
Another thought to throw into it!!

We just went through this on the Patrol4wd list.

We ended up having a Southern and Northern gathering (Qld and Vic).

Everyone was YES YES YES telling me it was the best idea I ever had!!!!

The southern Gathering when it happened, there were 2 patrols and a pile of 80's (from 80scool) that turned up.

the Northern gathering there were a Massive 3 patrols.

Good idea, but location and timing is your problem.

Also school holidays times are good as people can bring kids, but also sucks as theres 9348029480298402938402938s of kids screaming around at 7am.

Using a current 4wd meeting is probably your best bet, and just have an area for EO people.

We have had similar get togethers with the Campertrailer List Members.
Combined NSW/Vic get togethers have been held in The Watagans but we got evacuated due to bushfires and ended up in a caravan park on lake macquarie. The 2nd one was at Tumut.
It is great to meet the faces after getting your first impression from messages only.

Ari could tell more about the organisation of these meet and greets.

thanks for the ideas so far Yes I agree it could be held with another larger group ie; 4wd nat meeting or even VKS737 annual meeting . Kep the ideas comingBorn to drive a 4x4 , not a keyboard

I have been musing over this too, sent a note to David to as I recall, I think an EO area at a major 4x4 event of a great idea might be good for membership too I think.

It's a great idea.... but maybe the they types who submit here are not that easily grouped. I reckon the very best way to meet is to have the stickers showing and pull over and say g'day as we move about.

Sounds like a good idea, in that it is a live forum. You get to talk around the fire or the engine bay, see people's problems and good ideas etc. Far better than an internet forum, but harder to get to! I would make the effort to come along if within striking distance of Melbourne, and may be able to help organise if necessary. Awaiting further direction.......Russell S
