We are planning to head west from the Tanami Road, out through Papunya and along the Gary Junction Road all the way to Well 33, then up the Wapet Road to the Great Northern Highway. Timing early August.

Has anyone gone all or part of that route this year? If so, what condition are they in, and what sort of driving time are we looking at?

I'd appreciate your input.

Kidson Track is okay but I've heard Gary Junction track is the worse for wear. Pity as I was looking at using it next year.
Will be watching this thread with keen interest

I was denied a permit to travel along the Gary Junction road last year, due to the flooding and high water levels. Don't know if the road was graded, post flooding, but would certainly pay to check with the central lands council on conditions re your permit.

Max, I asked this question a few weeks ago and there were some very helpful replies. Do a search under Wapet.

Bob - thanks for that. It seemed though, that the responses you got were all talking about the Kidson. I did not get the impression that of them has done the Gary Junction Track since it was flooded last year. Am I right?

Probably best to just go and have a look!
