Evening All,
Been looking around for awhile as to where I can mount a second recovery point to the GU. In addition which ones fit and are they rated to Aus specs? All the ones I have looked at seem to Chinese rubbish.
Cheers

The early GUs had holes to suit a nissan recovery hook on the passenger side but you couldn't get inside the chassis rails to put a nut on the bolts. They can't be drilled through (easily) either due to the body mount position. Opposite Lock sell a recovery hook to suit but that involves drilling some holes in the chassis to get a nut in there.
Later model GUs have nuts welded to the inside of the chassis so a nissan hook can be mounted if needed.

you just need to drill one hole in the bottem of the chassis rail, weld a small 1/4 rod to nuts and poke up through hole to bolts.

Subject: RE: GU recovery hook
Hi and thanks for your enquiry. I am fairly sure the early models are a problem for this. We usually supply the late model (series 4,5, and 6) without a problem but i think the series 1 and 2 at least don't match. Basically Nissan list only one hook for the vehicle. On the later ones you can take the hook and mount it on either side as it is universal but I don't think you can do that on your model. You will need to have a look at your hook (or unbolt it for five minutes) and see if you take it to the other side it will do the job. I am reasonably sure it won't and in that case I can't help you but ARB and similar 4WD specialists do make universal ones although I think most of them need to have holes drilled which I am not keen on myself. If the original one will fit on the other side let me know and I can price it for you (about $60 to $80) exactly.
Cheers
Garry
