TD100,

I shoped around and ended up staying with AAMI.
I'm insured for agreed value with all the extras specified.

AAMI jacked the insurance on the missus hilux up by over $100.
We went to the RAC which was only marginally cheaper mostly on principle the DB on the phone would only say hiluxes are involved in lots of accidents and wouldnt let me query the massive jump further with her boss
Also RAC had lower excess and windscreen replacement

Im still with NRMA purely because I have been for 10 yrs and so the discount is adding up...havent shopped for the Navara but the L'C was $765 with NRMA and with AAMI it was going to be $1080 for the same everything......with a 60% no calim for life (good thing seeing that Ive already had a claim!)

good luck finding something that will help and do the job....find one and stick with it is my motto.....and have everything with them...discounts are great!!!

Id be asking for a decent discount and threaten to move. I have discounts for th car and home/content insurance...totals up to nearly $600 per yr....

they are a bit like a bank...the only way to get them moving is threaten to move!!

Lol I told AAMI we would move if she didnt at least put a boss on for the proper explanation to the big hike but she said if we wanted to move we could and her explanation was THE explanation

yeah I didnt have much luck getting a quote down from them, when I told them what I was paying with NRMA they said for me to look at the small print...i said that everything was exactly the same, same accerssories, agreed value etc...even when I explained the discounts for so many yrs that I get she still couldnt offer the same!!

I'm with Allianz. Have 2 cars insured with the and also had my campervan with them as well before we sold it. I shopped around quite extensively and they were definately the better value.

When you say accessories you are talking about "vehicle" accessories and not such things as hf or uhf radios, fridges recovery gear, camping gear etc? The reason I am asking is because I have 9 vehicle accessories and modifications included in the sum insured and there was no issues with these items when I insured with Allianz

Allianze from my impression wont insure a "modified" vehicle unless you have engineers certification for each mod. .....silverback

You could be right david the 9 items I have are listed under a heading titled Vehicle accessories and modifications included in your vehicle sum insured. To me the 9 items are more likely to be accessories. I image if I raised the vehicle or put on oversize tyres that would be a modification. I wouldn't do it anyway as it would void the warranty.

Just back from getting my oil, this dial-up connection is so slow.
Insurance. I don't think the insurance companies want to be seen "authorising" vehicle mods if only to cover themselves. I wonder how many 4by owners advise their insurance companies of all their mods.
Oil. Went to my very favourite parts outlet in Rosebud and was surprised to find 2 C3 compliant full synthetic oils avbl...Nulon 5W-30 52D for 5L and Penrite HPR 0 0W-40 49D/5L and seeing the Shell equivalent from a Nissan dealer was 70D/5L I thought that was a good deal. ....cheers.....silverback

I doubt if too many notify.
I use Mobil1 5w 30 ESP I buy it in bulk, 20l drum from a Mobil depot. Last drum cost me $193.26 which works out at $48.32 for 5 litres. I did consider using the Penrite but after I found out Jeep Aust had issued a Service Bulletin to their dealers that they should be using the Mobil 1 I thought I'd better use it seeing I was doing my own oil changes. I also checked with Mercedes Benz and one of their technicians from their head office telephoned me would you believe and informed me the only oil Merc use in the CRD V6 turbo is Mobil 1 5w 30 ESP.
So I thought I'd better use it!!

yea,
Ferrari use Shell , the Germans in general seem to use Mobil but my local dealer uses Castrol and I don't think they will change to Mobil but if they do it will mean something....the Penrite oil meats MB specs......silverback

Watch out for the first year special deal which they give you and then hope you will renew automatically usually for substantially more. QBE wouldn't even give me a quote. They had asked if I had been with my previous insurer for at least 3 years. I said no..... they don't like people who don't accept their renewal automatically, but check to see if they can get a better deal....silverback

AAMI did the same to me 12 months ago. Started shopping around and ended up changing all our insurances to RAA - 3 cars, home and contents saved over $1000 per year. I told AAMI and they were polite in saying that they simply couldn't match it. Policies were comparable - except RAA included a windscreen.

How long have you been a member? I get a silver membership which was transferred from my time with the RAA and it gives me a discount on top of the discount for having car home and cntents
Also some here talk of value price ETC but that is one thing that never is known until you claim
I have had one write off claim with VACC (years ago) and a couple of smallish homeand contents claims with RAC and all were exceptianal

Yeah, we get the silver member discount, plus the over 50 discount (just :-))) plus combined insurances discount. Sounds like RAC are the same. Haven't heard any bad stories about RAA, and I was with them in the past.

Not sure how much of my truck is really insured - they took down all the details of the extras, but were cagey as to how much i'd get if written off. AAMI were the same in this respect. It lives locked in the garage, when not on a trip, so it must be low risk of getting pinched.

I insured Darkie through Suncorp, I did the same thing as you and asked here and was recommended TCIS, which funnily enough hasn't been mentioned in this thread.

Maybe others are now finding TCIS to be a PITA to deal with. I am still waiting after countless phone calls to them for a quote.

Good luck.

Cheers Kev

I insured 'The Landy' using TCIS as a broker given the work that had been done on it. However, I use NRMA for my other stock standard Defender and find it quite reasonable.

TCIS require a little patience, but worth it.

If you do change watch out for cover on your camping equipment, eg. tent chairs etc etc. I am insured with N.R.M.A. at the moment and went camping earlier this month. I inquired from them re camping gear and was told that neither my household or comprehensive vehicle insurance covered camping gear. They suggested that I would have to insure them separately through a broker. It looks that I may be reviewing my entire insurance portfolio with a broker. Regards G.T.
