Firstly let me say I am not trying to sell this product nor do I have any affiliation with this product. Recently whilst towing my KK to
Coffs Harbour to finalise the sale, I blew a top radiator hose on my NL Pajero near West Wyalong. I wasn't carrying a spare. I taped it up with insulation tape, put the radiator cap on 1/2 way and continued to town after filling with water. I bought some Extreme Tape ($16.50, so not cheap) from a local servo. It is a rubber compound which sticks to itself and bonds "permanently". I only mention this here because it got me out of trouble and may be beneficial to others. I continued 3,500 kms and it is still working fine. I bought a new hose and will replace it this week. We all carry spare hoses but for those who don't or for heater hose problems etc. it would be fantastic.

Yes- self amalgamating tape is very very good handy stuff.
It does have its limits though. Once I tried to repair a high presssure water hose with it. It blew the water straight through it in seconds.
Cheers

Yeah sorry should have been clearer. Not in a vehicle application - it was a high pressure cleaner.

It's also great for sealing up the coaxial connectors and control wiring plugsin autotune antennas (ie Codan) and can be wound around any electrical connector that requires waterproofing... use it all the time.
Cheers,
Mark

B,
Interesting post and thanks. Used to use this stuff about 40 years ago and was looking for some about 15-20 years back but was told "no longer available." I guess I gotta learn not to be so gullible??
Almost an essential auto-first-aid item.

I got it from
Caltex West Wyalong. He had another one there. It's called QuikFix X-treme Tape. On the pack it says its from "productselect" and there's an email address of info@productselect.com.au. Maybe it can be bought through them if you're not the first into
Caltex West Wyalong to snap up the last one I saw there. Cheers Bryce

Self almalgamating tape is a must in the "tool Kit". I should be available from most electrical wholesalers.
3M "Scotch #23" tape is one of it's trade names.
One tip for radiator hose repair is to overbind the tape repair with some nylon cord to provide some reinforcement as the tape can soften a bit at high temps.

Kicking myself now for not getting some. Saw it being demonstrated at the Pert Caravan & Camping show - looked like an excellent product. Could of got 2 rolls for $30. Was feeling tight fisted on the day though.

I have used extreme tape for many years on the
farm and now carry it with me all the time in the car and van. I will give good tempary repairs if surface is clean and dry. Have had a radiator hose last several weeks before I got a replacement.

Tubeless tyre valve stem inserts and valves. I have never seen them mentioned on this
forum as spares to carry previously.
However I may be wrong ,I often am.

We got some from the Caravan and camping show here in
Perth, two rolls for $30 I think. Looked good to us, seemed quite versatile, could make it into Orings in a push, don't know how good that would be but if you were in the bush and stuck it would be worth a try.
Cheers
