My patrol ut, 4.2lt TD, i have never been happy with the very rigid hose that connects the air filter to the engine, it has a few ribs in the middle for flex but they do very little for the flexing & movement point of things... thus creating some more pressure ont he air filter top, all mad eof plastic & it flex's, meaning it can leave a gap (very lightly sealed against the filter) i have had some dust seep in, can see it ont he filter, i use to run genuine filter & then had a repco replacemnet & now run K&N, they all have same problem..
the snorkle connection to the filter housing (genuine nissan) leaves alot to be desired too. really pathetic.

Question. Has anyone found a better hose to put in its place?

I sourced a very flexible hose for the old GQ from Pirtek. Other "hose" specialists would probably also have something suitable.

They don't just do the high pressure stuff. I am pretty sure they would be able to help you out. The one I got was ribbed heat resistant plastic. It had been in the car for a couple of years when I sold it but was still looking good
