My front right CV joint is click/clunking on full lock indicating there is a bit much wear there... 208k's HZJ105.
How long does that indicate they are likely to last?
Would you leave it or replace it?
If you were doing them would you do left AND right or just the right?
Cheers
Andrew.

First answer is a bit like how long is a piece of string.
Depends where u go how u drive it etc.
If its noisy replace both of them as they both go around corners so will wear proportionately.

LHS tends to wear first as our left hand turns are typically sharper than our right hand turns and the inside wheel turns sharper than the outside.
One other thing to consider is that the LHS is also subject to more potholes and other roadside irregularities than the RHS (usually high on the bitumen).
Agree with replace in pairs.
The knock you hear is caused by wearing through the hardened area of the joint, meaning the weaker "standard" steel is exposed to the pressure exerted by the balls (essentially point contact. As for how long it wiill last it would depend on weight of vehicle/terrain/Murphy's Law.
Change them now and carry both as spares (worn one would get you out of trouble if needed).

A clicking CV is not a warning bell for 'service soon'. It is toast now.

When they start clicking, they let oil out of the diff into the grease, wich washes the grease away and accelerates wear. The c/v itself is no weaker than new, but the wear in it is causing noise.... How often do u shove a grease gun in there and grease it?? If you do this every so often, it will last as long as you can get it registered with oil coming out the diff...
If your keen, you can swap left for right and the noise will go away, as you are now running on the rverse side which is almost wear free.
Bottom lone is...dont buy chinese replacements for $49 on ebay, you will snap 20 of them before the one in there lets go.

Thanks guys.
Well Nigel (Squire) says it it nothing to worry about... clicking is only occasional on hard lock right.
I will be watching it though, and will keep the grease up to them.

Andrew.
The clicking noise is caused by the balls in the joint not being kept in a straight line by the cage. If you replace the cage now it will be good again but if you let it run out of alignment you will have to replace the complete joint. Save yourself dollars by doing now. Eric.
