My brother has just purchased a motor home(Izuzu NPR250 Auto ) and is wondering would a after market turbo adversly affect the motor that has 235,000 klm on it, and what sort of power increase would it get if added ? Also has anyone towed a small car behind anything similar and how did it handle it ?

Cheers

Giffo,

What year and engine model is it? In my experience with the Isuzu trucks the motorhomes are never real power machines.

What engine does it have ? A lot of us Landrover owners have Isuzu 4BD1 and 4BE1 engines shared with Isuzu NKR/NPR/Elf trucks in their 110s. These engines turbo up well as evidenced by the SAS LRPVs in service in Afghanistan.

As a comparison, the standard Isuzu 4BD1 went from 66kW to 90kW and 245 to 314 Nm when turboed. There's more than just turboing though. Fuel pump needs changing to up fuel rate and Isuzu turboed engines usually had extras like alfin pistons, oil spray under the pistons, nitrided crank etc.

I believe the turboed version of the 4BD1 (the 4BD1-T) had a Garrett GT28R turbo. Come to think of it, there may have been another model used as well.
