Hi, I'm thinking of converting my 97 PD Courier 4x4 to LPG, but have been told they burn valves. Has any one had any advice or knowledge on this conversion.
thanks sev.

Need to keep ignition in perfect condition and no throttle at start up as a back fire will destroy the air flow meter [$400] .Best to get set up that starts on petrol and switchs to gas with revs. I had 91 model and petrol start, 250,000 k and no problems with LPG. Got 390k for 60 lts . Cheap motoring

Thanks Murray,
not sure but I think the 91 didn't have the multi valve head.

Sev

LPG is good if system is installed properly and is a Sequential Gas Injection type (not the throttle body fitting type).

I have it on my 100 Series Cruiser and it runs fantastic. Starts on petrol and then after about 1-2klms auto switches to LPG.

Valves can recede so fit a Valve Saver system. See http://www.flashlube.com.au/en/valvesaverkit/index.html for details.

Valves will need adjustment check more often than petrol but should be no real problems. Seems to be more of a problem on Toyota than most other cars from what I can tell.

hi kkwdw,
thanks for the info I previously had a mittsi L200 on gas with the valve saver (Moyses) and had no trouble but was worried when told the multi valves would burn.

I also have a 91 courier on gas. the book says it is a 12 valve head. Now done 310 000km and the motor hasn't been touched and the only oil it uses is from tappet cover leak which is hard to fix. It uses no oil on trips. Around town I get 300k from a 56 litre tank.
