Evening all,
Yesterday Members Borgy & Littleborgy came round and gave me a hand to fit a winch to the Nissan.
I already have a Nissan winch bar on the front of the trol so it was just a matter of bolting it up with the four bolt holes in the front of the bar to the mounting points on the winch, they all lined up so it should fit hey.
Well after looking at it a couple of months back that wasn't the case, that would mean the gear lever on the winch would be right around the back and in a very awkward place to select either free spool or in modes.
It was then thought to make a cradle for the winch like S.A. member Trevor M has done, that way the lever would be in the up position, with the mounting bolts facing down.
Then decided to try and see if it was possible to turn the whole housing where the lever is, around to a more suitable position. After pulling the housing off, in behind the drum sides are about 12 alan key bolts. They were undone and the housing was turned. In all it took about 15 mins.
Done, just like that.
I hope that all makes sense for you all, cos it does for me :) I didn't think to take any pics during the operation otherwise I would post some.
The winch is a Chinese cheapie that hopefully do the job as it will very rarely be used. It is also my old mans winch which he has lent me before I go to Tassie at the end of this month. I just gotta either give it back or make sure I buy him one before he goes to
Cape York next year. Most likely the later.
Cheers Luke

I couldn't believe how easy it was to do. I thought it would be a major operation like pulling all the cable off and almost totally stripping it.

Hi Luke,
I used to be member trevor M but now just Trev.
I am surprised anyone remembers my post about the winch cradle I constructed.
I have had to use it a few times in anger and has done the job
well. (winch mounted on a GU with no winch bar). Happy to give advice to anyone who wants to do it. Not that hard and costs about $60 on top of the winch. (and you can avoid the weekends mucking about that I had working out how it could fit!)
Glad you sorted your problem easily Luke

G,day Trev
I can still get into your members rig page via the
forum archives. everything is like you are still a member although I can't seem to find you via the
members list page.
I haven't forgotten about your bracket (obviously).
Just by your pics, it looks the same as the one I fitted on the weekend. If it is, good to here it is still working after a few times in anger.
Cheers Luke
