Firstly thankyou to all for your advice, those that thought it could be an air leak you were right the turbo is NOT faulty.
Took the turbo to J C DIESAL at narellan within 2 minutes they pointed out the 3 bolts attaching the variable vane actuator were slightly loose allowing an air leak, loss of turbo boost, lack of power and that distinctive whistle.

saved me buying a new turbo etc cant recommend J C DIESAL highly enough, several posters said they had a similar noise hope this helps you.

Hi Pepper2,

Gr8 result. And Nissan were only too happy to sell you a new turbo.... So much for their diagnosis.

All the best,
Hugh

A few weeks back my GU 3.0 Patrol stopped. Dead. Kaput!

The local mechanic had it for a day and then told me it was beyond his knowledge and expertise and suggested I take it to Nissan or a fuel injection mob.

You don't need to be Einstein to figure out that I very quickly told him that my 3.0 Nissan will never again be touched by Nissan while I'm the owner.

They are rip-off bastards.

Another bouquet for JC Diesel- Narellan...
Did my injector/turbo etc service about a year ago. Excellent service and good 'feedback' as to what they had done !!
Highly recommended (even though they are 5 minutes down the road)..
