In recent times I've seen more and more people pulling the camper/caravan just off the highway a couple of km north of Penola in a little lay-by.
I'm all for
free camping, but if you're after a decent sleep when hereabouts, try heading about 1km south of town and in to the
Greenrise lake area. You can get
well off the road, there are
toilets and a bbq (probably pay as you go . . not sure) and plenty of hectares to let the hound/kids run free. The lake's been dry for a while, so the bath ain't an option at the moment.
I've seen people camped there for days, occasionally a week or more. It's not a designated
campsite as far as I know, but I can't see that matters.
Just a thought, if you're travelling through. Happy travels!!
