Just about ready for a quick trip during the school holidays. If anybody else is going at that time, might see you on the road. Hawker to Arkaroola and back in an anticlockwise fashion, if you know what I mean. Looks like it'll be a bit fresh in the mornings, but we'll cope! Russell S

Perhaps, but when you've got kids in school........
Also, I'm expecting it to be bl***y cold at night, which might keep people away. Places I've booked don't seem busy at all (don't really want bookings) and SA school hols are behind ours at least a week. We'll see how we go.Russell S

was 5 degrees. The maximum was...........wait for it..........5 degrees!

We were in that area in July school hols 2002.
It was not crowded at all, but it was very cold at night with frosts ( ie scraping ice off in the mornings).
Had a wonderful time.
Only got a week this year so are 'doing' Mungo NP from Sydney - probably be just as cold but we find rain is the worst, flies next and cold a distant third - which is to say we can cope with the cold !!
Regards,
Brad.

Hi Brad,

If you can, stay at least one night at the Shearer's Quarters. They have fantastic facilities with external campfire and gas BBQ, toilets and hot showers, internal cooking facilities including internal fire. Lots of room. Quarters have bunk beds and does get chilly at night, but after a couple of ports around the fire you should'nt notice.

Bookings are required, but just ring the Park. Payment is honesty system as well as a day rate. Ranger live on site and does check if permits have been purchased. Just Do It!

Just came back form the gammons ranges....had a little rain to date but okay.
weather was fine most days but rained on the last night; not too heavy though

The wilpena and flinders ranges area was a tad different ...water water water every where....but passable.

watch out for dips as they may be washed out and all sections of dirt should be treated with caution when wet. One can scoot along on a damp/wet surface only to be fooled into a false sense of security, ie the road isnt too slippery but and with out warning, suddenly changes to soft SLIPPERY clay.

Almost came unstuck (or should i say stuck) a couple of times. This info relates for roads Wilpena to Arkaroola to Copley. Richard
