Rick (S.A.)
Off on Friday early a.m. for a 15 day trip visiting :
Chambers Pillar, Hugh River,
Lawrence's Pass, Stuart Pass & Brinkley
Bluff.
Then Anna's Reservoir & Mt Freeling, the old O.T. Line, Central Mt Stuart,
Attack Creek & Kekwick Ponds.
Home south through the Davenport Ranges.
Theme is to follow as near as is pracatically possible to
John McDouall Stuart's 1860 route from
Chambers Pillar to
Attack Creek, where he aborted his 1860 trip in his first serious attempt to cross the continent from south to north.
We will also climb Brinkley
Bluff, climb Central Mt Stuart, search for two blazed trees (forever optimistic, I know) and a cairn, and try and locate the grave of
John Milner at
Attack Creek [dead at the hands of natives, 1872, while delivering meat on the hoof to the starving
Overland Telegraph Line construction workers].
So, two weeks of the
camp oven, the swag, a few coldies and a glass or three of red. Station tracks and red dirt; warm days & cool nights; dirty clothes & dirty hair...............and hopefully the satisfaction of executing a highly researched, one -off trip.
Cheers

Rick,
What a great trip you've got ahead of you. From other posts I know how much you enjoy following the footsteps of
John McDouall Stuart and other
explorers. I hope that you find the two blazed trees and cairn. What an experience that would be.
I imagine you following the paths travelled so many years before and trying to put yourselves in the position of the men back then. How much easier it is now. They were venturing into the great unknown, never knowing what was ahead of them.
Good luck and happy travels
Viv
