Has anyone heard of the FDC brand of 5w handheld radios? FDC

They look exactley the same as the OMDI radios and are programmed with the Australian frequencies (40 channels). Even the remote mic/speakers are the same. Considering they are less then half the price (about $80 landed from Hong Kong) they seem like a good deal.

Howdy Ben,
make sure that you can program the Australian frequency band. I bought a similar radio on ebay not long ago and could not program to the 41700hz band which you will need. Make sure to check otherwise the handheld is pretty useless.
Cheers, Udo

- I'm not surprised it didn't work, you needed to program them to the 477000000Hz band.

Any thing seems like a good deal until it stops working or under performs!

G'day,

I recently bought one for paragliding, seem to be commonly used in the sport. Don't get me wrong, they aren't as rugged as the uniden or icom.. but mind you they are also $400-600.

IMHO They are considerably better than the Jaycar or DSE units in the same price range...

Be interesting to see how long I get out of it.

Oh and mine is the 450A model which works fine, I bought an extra battery and headset with throat mic. And if your keen the charging station uses 12V, so I have cut the cord and given myself an option of 240V with transformer or 12V in the car with cigy connector.
