100 series trip computer problem?

Afternoon all,
hope someone out there can help, I have a 2002 model 100 series 1hz and every time I start the car the trip computer zero's itself and it's beginning to p@#$ me off and its only been a week.

Whenever gauges etc play up I suspect earth connections - battery, starter, dashboard.

New batteries fixed that problem when I had it, that was not why the batteries were replaced though.
