Just read a article by "Edmonds.com" in America that states the V8 200 there is fitted with a 6 speed auto the same as fitted to the Tundra. It appears that the buyers here are getting short changed with the 5 speed in the V8 & having to go to the diesel for the extra cog. You would think with the extra torque of the diesel it would be the other way around.

Isn't the 6 speed just a con anyway as the 6th cog doesn't stay in if any accelleration is wanted over a 100k?
Their V8 may be the 5.7 litre not the 4.7 litre.

Your right it is the 5.7 3UR- FE all alloy block, just noticed this on "Truck Trend" another Yank site. Still like to see that motor & transmission in our version though.

If you call 9l/100k and 1550rpm in 6th not very useful then it is a huge rip off. If you put down it will go to 5th or even 4th.

Anyone that tells you 6th is no good doesn't own one ...period.

Oops I meant

If you call 9l/100k and 1550rpm in 6th at 100kph not very useful then it is a huge rip off. If you put the foot down it will go to 5th or even 4th.

Anyone that tells you 6th is no good doesn't own one ...period.

No worries I know all about big diesel V8's with heaps of torque and getting the gearing to work.
When I first got the Humvee it has a TH400 (turbo 400) 3 speed auto, terminal velocity was 95kph due to 2:1 drop in the portal hubs and fuel consumption was around 18l/100 with the engine doing 2850 rpm, not good.
Eventually I gathered all the required bits to fit the later 4L80E 4 speed with lock up torque converter. At 95kph it is now pulling 1850 rpm, fuel consumption is back to 15 -16l/100 and if I sit on around 105 kph it uses less fuel again as it is right on max torque at 2000 rpm.

Yes, Landcruisers in the US are fitted with the 5.7 and 6 speed. They wont sell many though, the Sequoia is bigger, has the same running gear, and it's half the price of the LC. Diesel V8 is coming for the Tundra and Sequoia. The 5.7 is available in Australia in the Lexus LX570 only.
