Hi! We are heading up to Cobourg Peninsula in early August and have the permits organised already so all is good there. We've been told store, fuel etc isn't available this season but are choosing to go as we are able to take all supplies we need. Would like to know though if:

1)is there is fresh water available at the camp sites at Black Point

2) is there much sightseeing to do resulting in the need to take extra fuel

3)we are taking a car topper tinny. Do we also need to take our fold up trailer or can you safely launch boat from the beach

4) apart from the permit we already have, are there other areas we can get permits for that are worth a visit

Would appreciate any further information on Cobourg

Thanks - Peter and Lyn

1)Was fresh water - in tanks , when we were there in 2003
2)Not much to sight see , a trip along the beach is all - boat trip to old settlement is a bit expensive
3)Can launch from beach ok
4)Don't know of many other places there.

Thanks Lizard. Could you advise if the beach for launching the tinny far from the camp ground? We plan on camping in the camp that allows generators which I believe is a little ways from the beach.

Linny,
You may want to try Pt Essington ruins if you have a tinny, first attempt at establishing a port in the Territory. Good fishing and lots of it around there. Watch the lizards as when we were there one took a dingo off the beach about 5m from the water line.

On a good day is it possible to go across to the ruins in a 13ft tinny with a 15hp ?
If so, how far is it by water?
Thanks Lyndon

Linny,
A 15hp sounds a little light for where you have to go. Maybe with another boat and let the locals know where you are going and when you will return. An EPIRB is always good insurance. From memory the trip was about an hour & half, though we had a larger boat. We were also mucking around with some bait fish for later.

Cheers
