Can anyone tell me if you can take your own canoe for use in
Katherine George or do you have to hire them at the
visitors centre. Not much information on the web sites.

Yes you can, but there is a fee to launch your boat because it is a private
boat ramp, this includes canoes.

BYO is frowned upon because the guy who does hires the canoes might miss out a bit poor fellow. i was astounded but payed my cash and displayed the disc so no one shot me as a free loader.
while it was a real highlight canooing 4 of the gorges it put a bad taste in my mouth and i opted not to stay there the night and drove to flora river where the canooing is incredablre and free with hot showers and no crowds
