Original plan was to travel via the Barkly & Stuart Highway as we will have two camper trailers with us. Not much on this route so are proposing to head up north through
Lawn Hill,
Borroloola and
Roper Bar. Treck Notes indicate this route is not suitable for campers. Any
feedback appreciated.

Hi Richard, we did this trip last August / Sept in our Nissan Patrol with slide on camper and I reckon a Holden Commodore could have done it no worries. We never needed 4WD and all tracks / creek crossings were fine with only about 300mm max of water across them. Maybe other members have done this route more recently and could update track conditions for you but for my mind, it would be OK to tow your camper trailers along this route. (Assume you are towing with 4WD's ?)
Recommend you spend a couple of days at
Lawn Hill and don't miss the "Southern Lost City" between
Borroloola nad
Roper Bar. We think it's better than the Bungle Bungles.
Also, no fuel available at Hell's
Gate so you need to carry enough to get to
Borroloola

Mal,
Thanks for the heads up on Hell's
Gate and
Lost City. Convoy is 2 cruisers and 2 prados, two with off road campers. Do you recall what the camping looked like at Robinson River or Snake Lagoon?

Lawn Hill is a must do, but stop at Adel Grove not
Lawn hill as the facility is far better.

Richard,
When are you planning to go?
We hope to do travel Mt Isa to
Roper River in early August, and am gathering information now.
Have been to
Lawn Hill before, but turned north east, not north west last time :o)

John,
We will be traveling through the area with 4 vehicles, 2 with campers 5-8 July. I went through
Lawn Hill last October but no further west.

Wish you a good trip.
We have end of year at work and school fete to help with on the 26th July. Hoping to get away from
Brisbane about the 30th July.

Hi Richard, we did not go into Robinson River or Snake Lagoon but can highly recommend Kingfisher
Camp just north of
Lawn Hill. Also forgot to add that Woologorang is closed to tourists so no fuel their either. Fuel is much cheaper at
Borroloola than
Cape Crawford. Another couple of great camping spots are at Batten Point on the
McArthur River. You can
camp for free right on the river bank. Drive past the King Ash Bay caravan park and look for campsites along the river once you have gone past the last of the
shacks. Another spot is Butterfly Springs. Good
campsite and permanent fresh
water hole with only fresh water crocs.
