Hi guys, being new to diesels i have a 1996 gq 2.8 turbo and the glow plugs light on the dash flashes on for about 10 minutes.
The previous owner said he had a new head and glow plugs and a relay put in about 8 months before i bought it . It has done this since i have had it and just wondered if this is right. Some guys have told me that it should only stay on for a few seconds
Any ideas.
Cheers
Craig

10 mts ? 10 seconds would be longer than normal unless camped in the ice and snow.
Heuston, we have a small problem.
Lift the strap off each glow plug and check for open circuits.

glow plugs running for too long will burn out prematurely , but shoulnt cause any major problems driving, will just keep warming the fuel before combustion, if you have a test light see if they are actually staying on for that length of time. (or multimeter) (one lead to battery neg the other lead to one of the glow plugs

parolman i say do check them because they may be working fine ,and the cause of the warning light to flash may be another sensor ,ie temp. that may be open circuit and when the motor heats up the light goes out. and the constant flashing might be the fault code to that sensor
