Hi all,
I am considering purchasing new rims and tyres and have noticed that 15 inch rims and tyres are way cheaper. Could anyone provide any first hand experience re legality, do they fit? do they have a reduced load rating etc?.
Any reccomendations on black steel rims would also be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris.

Chris,

The reason that vehicles have bigger rims is because of bigger brakes.

So a 15" probably will not fit over the brake rota and caliper.

Hi Chris,

Went through the same scenario with my 05 GU. The 15's don't fit. I tried but the brakes are to big which is why you have to go the 16's. I got ROH steel rims as apparently they have thicker steel than some of your cheaper rims. They retail for around $115 plus a rim. If you want stronger you will need to go custom built from what I know which will cost around $300 and up.

As for tires I originally ran the Wrangler MTR's. They performed well on and off the road and came with a warranty from good year which can be really handy. I have now bought Mickey Thompson MTZ's. I did a bit of research and apparently the steel belts are 1.5 times as thick as the other brands. Again have found them to be very good both on and off road.

Cheers

Hi Adrian

I have several sets of ROH because they have less steel than Nissan ones making them some 3kg lighter but also have better design.

All 16 inch rims don't fit all GU's , my 4800 cannot take most aftermarket 16 rims.
The ROH trak 11's do fit because of their greater 10mm offset, this allows me to use (mostly ) 16 X 7 rims as well which are almost as light as Nissan mags.
