Hi there,
A question for anyone who has the above antenna. Mine has been working perfectly until our trip this past week. Whenever I trued to tune my antenna it beeped at me with a failed message on the screen. Once driving for a while it seemed to tune ok without any problems.
It indicated to me a power issue, but the question is why all of a sudden. Nothing in the truck has changed. Same battery, same fridge, same radio, same wiring, but suddenly these problems.
if anyone has any suggestions as to
where to start to look to resolve this it would be most appreciated.

Richard,
That's quite normal to get the 3 deep beeps when it won't tune. Can be ionisphere,

Let me try that again
Richard,
That's quite normal to get the 3 deep beeps when it won't tune. Can be ionosphere, interference, hills etc etc. Usually if you try it straight away again it will tune.
Happens to mine occasionally too.
Cheers

Yeah I have had that before, but when it happens every single time across 10 days there is definately something not right there.

Richard
I agree with Blue One, but just as an occasional thing. However, if its happening everytime as you say then something might be adrift. What series is it / how old? cheers JD

Hi
John
I initially though it may be an earth problem, and it could still be, however after driving for about 30 minutes it seemed to tune just fine, so I suspect some kind of power issue, as I believe that they do suck quite a bit when tuning.
I will wait to see what light footy can shed on it :)

All is not
well with either your installation (earths) or your aerial.
Earths are relatively easy to
check.
If it's not earths then

Footy
All was going
well until this last trip. I did find on the way
home from work today that if I turned the fridge off the antenna did seem to tune more readily than if the fridge was running. I did also notice that my fridge was not cold this afternoon either, and even though it was empty it still shouild have had some coldness in it. It did however work
well on the trip, swo I am still thinking something to do with power?

Battery should be more than fine. Almost a new (< 6 months old) Full River 90AH AGM. Maybe it doesnt like being under the bonnet. When I get the chance I will pop back to where I purchased it from and have them do some investigation on it for me. May have to go back to a standard wet cell battery under the bonnet that will stand the heat better me thinks.......

Does the NGT menu have an option for displaying the battery voltage, similar to the 9323? If so,
check it on transmit. I'm betting that you'll get around 11.4 volts.
Yep, get them batteries checked.

Footy
Yeah it can show the voltage, although I dont know about on transmit. Pressing button 1 to bring up the tune screen also shows the current Voltage. On driving it is sitting around 13.7 - 13.9 which is to be expected. When I got
home tonight after about 60 minutes in the car, let the car sit for a while after turning off and voltage was reading 12.5

See if it drops on transmit...I'm betting that it will drop considerably.

Hey Footy
Cant see the voltage screen on transmit. If I leave it on that screen it just wants to tune again.
As far as earths go, the only one I can see on the tuner itself is the large metal ribbon type cable that goes from underneath to an earth point on the car. Anywhere else I should be looking?

Remember the 9350 has two earth straps one where the rubber vibration mounts are earthing the the top and bottom plate (6mm wire).
The second earth point is from the base of the mount to the vehicle (big eart strap).
If the antenna has to be tuned from one frequency and the other frequency is along way apart it may not tune the first time, example from 14 Mhz to 5 Mhz.
The other thing is is your antenna is a "A" or "B" series there may be a proble internaly with it...they had known problems.
Most "A" and "B" series have been repaired by now and upgraded to a "C" or "D" series.
Regards Richard

goodday richard
had mine in for testing testerday similar problem radio and aerial just 12months old aerial has now been removed as there is a problem with it not self tuning but an off shoot to this problem they say my aerial is to close to the roof rack but i have never had a problem like this beforeand i may have to use a centre of spare wheel type mounting to move away from the rack ?? but a definite problem with the tuning
it started with channel 2 but then got worse on channel 1 also was discussed that using just 1 channel could cause a hotspot which would do the same thing

Hi Steve
I have not had this problem before. Had the antenna mounted in the same spot for the past 3 1/2 years with no issues.
It fails first and then eventually decides to tune. I thought maybe power, although I left the fridge running all last night and it was cold this morning, so the battery should be ok.
At the moment I am still at a loss. I will try to call into a sked tonight to make sure it is transmitting ok, and if that is good then I am still up for some further suggestions.

Steve
Mine seems to want to work after about 2 - 5 minutes of turning on. I did call into
Adelaide base this afternoon and was told I sounded like I was next door to him so at least the radio itself seems to be working just fine.
Will have to check the earth connections, although I would think that if it was a bad earth it would tend to be more unreliable than it currently is, so hoping it is not the autotune itself :(
