hi have a nissan patrol 2000 motor xd30 ,
just intrested to see if anyone has got anywhere with nissan on the dedfault motors on this model . we have had the car for 2 years serviced every 5000k ran nicely until 2 months ago and the piston blew which now is costing us $10,000 due to getting a rebuild the car has only done 165.000 km on the clock and we arent happy about these models having dud motors in them and our car is one of them . we did ring nissan and let them no the problem so they could help fix it as they new this was a problem with this model nissan and our reply was " sorry cant help because of the age of car" but nowing the age 8 yrs old and looked after really well 165,000 km on clock is nothing for a diesel motor so we arent very happy .. so wanting to know has anyone else had a problem , and if so did nissan manufactures help and come to the party ,, thanku drilly

If you do a search on this site you will find a lot of information on the problems and lack of assistance received from Nissan.

The problems surfaced with these motors not long after they were released in 2000. Overseas they were recalled and fitted with larger sumps to try to fix the issue. In Australia the solution was to do a recall and fit shorter dip sticks. I wonder what dip stick at Nissan came up with that idea.

Rather than paying $10,000 for a rebuild look at getting a second hand 4.2 Turbo Diesel and fitting that. The 4.2 are a very reliable motor and this could be a cheaper option in the long run.

Kumunara, try finding a donor 4.2, they are rarer than hen's teeth. I am thinking of offloading mine with 350 on the clock and am amazed at what is being offered for it, with these k's on it. Mind you, that is if I put in the new LS2 6.0lt as a replacement. Cheaper than a rebuild on the 4.2.

Good idea if you can find one though. You would be well advised to grab heaps of gear off the 4.2 if it is a wreck that you get the motor out of.

Cheers, Trevor.

I could imagine they would be difficult to find. They have a good reputation for reliability - unlike the 3.0 litre. I cannot see the sense of spending $10,000 rebuilding a 3.0 litre motor that may fail.

I hope that Nissan wakes up and replaces the 3.0 litre with a reliable motor.

If they don't I will have to keep my current Nissan for a long time. There is nothing on the market that appeals to me at the moment.

I had a ride in a Toyota LC70 series wagon. The seats are made for dwarfs and are extremely uncomfortable to a person of average size like me.

Yeah stuffed if I would shell out 10G on a 3lt rebuild too. The LS2 6.0lt petrol (with 300 BHP) is only a 14G proposition. Love to see a 3LT get 300BHP and last more than a week hahhahahahahahahha!!!!

funny you mention that Trevor,

I have a plan in place for when the old RD28 gives up the ghost, but mine is an LS1 with auto.

Can get for $5000 with less than 100 000km on the clock.

makes more sense than re building the 2.8

Cheers Stefan

stefan,

what sort of prices are they quoting you for the install? and can you keep the 2.8's diff ratios? Are you talking about the 5.7 or 6.0 lt block? Stroked 6.0lt gives you around 400+ BHP which should get the 33's squeeling whenever and wherever you want them to LOL!!
No real difference between LS1 and LS2 apart from build date I think (LS2's being brand spanking).

Cheers, Trevor.
