Looking at putting an instant LPG gas hw system in a caravan for hw to the sink and for the occassional shower. Caravan is typically parked on a bush block with no 240v (although the van does have a substantial solar/bty setup). Prefer a system that is fully automatic & no external power requirements as different people use the van & I want to keep it as simple as possible. 2 systems i have found are:
1. 6 l/min unit from www.ausj.com.au which uses D cells to automatically light the gas. approx $350
2. Bosch 10H (same as Bosch WR 250-1 ?) unit which is 10 l/min & uses 'hydropower' (no elec required) to light the gas. approx $650
Anyone used either unit or know of similar systems that might meet my needs?

I have the 13H (same design as the 10 just a bit bigger). Have used it for 5 years now, no problems. The hydro start is great.

Hi Drew T
Please have a look on ebay for Item number: 220231007673. This is a gas hot water system that I have and find it really good. I use it for filling my spa and it is a great unit. It runs on water pressure and has 2 d cell batteries for ignition only. Please have a look at the item and hope it helps you.

We've got one of these too, installed in a shed to supply a shower and tub/sink.
It works really
well using either mains pressure or pressure from a12v pump, we've had it hooked up both ways, great hot water for a shower.
I've mounted it inside on the wall and vented the flue back out side.
The gas bottle sits outside and I've run the hose through the wall.
Great unit and I highly recommend them.
As long as you vent the flue back outside and don't mount the unit on a combustible surface/wall you shouldn't have any problems in a stationary van.

To comply with the gas installation regulations you would need to mount the instantaneous hot water system externally. There is no instantaneous hot water system approved for internal caravan use.

The AusJ unit has no AGA Aus approval. Means they can sell the unit and you are not allowed to use it. Yes the laws are an ass at times.
Personally would buy the 10L unit as 6L is slow. 6L would be maximum with maximum pressure. In reality possibly 4 to 5L in most installations.

To comply with the Australian rules the combustion air must be drawn from the outside air and flued to the outside air. As yey, no one makes a unit to comply.
Hanging one on the outside should be OK - just don't install it inside.
