Hello everyone - have friends heading to
Lawn Hill later this month - they don't have a computer so have asked me to enquire about road conditions from
Gregory River to Adels Grove and into the NP. Have explained they change all the time, though feel from memory a couple of years back, the road was fair to the Century
Mine turn off. Has anyone been there recently? Any thoughts will be much appreciated.
Cheers
Jinki

When you ring Adels, you need to make it clear which way in you are asking about: the most direct route is via Thorntonia,
Riversleigh. This is often in poor condition and involves at least one flowing river ford (on causeway). Not recommended for ordinary vehicles, but can be ok for 4WD and offroad vans some years. The "long way round" via
Cloncurry, Burke & Wills and
Gregory Downs only involves about 90km of gravel road. This is usually ok for conventional vehicles and vans. People from Isa bring conventional 2WD cars that way regularly. The last 45km can be a bit worn, depending on when
grader went through, but it is a matter of cutting the speed right back, taking it carefully through dips and the like.

I was there from
Gregory Downs this Xmas New Year 2007/08.The rd to the
mine was quite good, like a h,way compared to the rest of the way in to
Lawn Hill. It allowed me by going slow to absorb the scenery more.I was driving a w/bago motorhome & no problems.
Enjoy it when they get there.:))
