I have a 70 series landcruiser cab chassis, and would be interested in any ideas of how to secure a laptop in front of the passenger so that the computer may be used while travelling. Any idea would be great and photos if possible would be much appreciated
Thanks for any ideas.

I use a RAM Mount from GPSOZ cost around $350 but there are no hole to drill just use existing bolts in vehicle Its very satable with negligable vibration. Have photos somewhere will try and locate and post for you.

Also use the RAM mount. Pricey but does the job.

What I found was great is that you can set up youre own configuration and positioning and height of the RAM base to suit your own requirements

This one belonged to a friend - it just sat there - hooked into the bar - very simple. Mine folds away in a pocket and output goes to a 7" dash screen.

That photo was from 8 years ago. Its not where I'd mount it - my wife wouldn't have a bar of it! She's not a keen navigator, which is one reason I like the remote screen. I have photos in my profile.

You'd need a pretty small laptop, and preferably a tabletPC to squeeze it into the cab of a 70series.

Here's two ideas:

1. the way I used to have it - on a home made stand - made out of the post of a broken adjustable office chair, and some polypropylene offcuts with velcro to hold it on (oh, I made up a bracket that sits under the inside front bolt of the passenger seat

2. an in-dash pop-out computer TFT monitor that connects to the laptop that stays in a bag in the rear passenger footwell. Unfortunately the design of the 100 series dash makes it hard to install easily...

Andrew.

I'm also thinking about mounting a lappie in my 96 Troopy but I am hesitant to as it's a significant safety hazard in an accident. Wouldn't want the passenger getting too intimate with the lappie on a suddent stop.

Trick is to keep it out of the sun... the old Tosh laptop I have (looks like PhilG has a very similar one) has a fan at the back left, which I keep oriented to the top and it works fine, even in the laptop bag it is in - although I leave it unzipped in that corner.

Yep, theres a fan - I think my Tosh only turns on when it gets hot. Also, when the laptop is closed, the screen is off, so it generates no heat. Mine sits in a pocket with foam and carpet padding.

Mount the lap top behind the seat and then mount a 7 or 8 inch touch screen in the front some where. Its a lot safer to have the lap top behind the seat. And yes a 7 inch screen is big enough to see moving maps because you just zoom in on the screen.

If you decide to go with the Rammount option

I have the top tray that holds the laptop spare at the moment.

Have only used it on 1 tarmac trip and decided to get a smaller screen.
Have mounted that differently and dont use the tray.

Its RRP is over $100 so make a decent offer, any one
PIcs below of setup .

Tray is as shown in previous replies

If you check out my rig page you'll see a laptop mount I had made by Brown Davis in Bayswater (Melb). I use a ram laptop table on top. Very robust.

Cheers.

Hello,

I've read this thread with interest and also been looking at associated threads on this subject. Can anyone recommend a good in dash TFT screen I can connect to my laptop for moving map?

Regards
