Hi zacc
UHF aerials are not designed to be tunes like the old AM sets, where you would have to SWR the antenna to the set.

Hi Zacc, Contrary to what some may say it is adviseable to have someone run a VSWR meter over your antenna as the tuning will vary depending on location on the vehicle, nearby antennas and other objects in the general area of the antenna.Because most UHF CBs only put out 5watts you need to insure all is as good as you can make it,this includes a good earth.Cheers.Snake and Josie

No need to SWR it in ( or what ever they do to UHF sets ) ...
The main thing to do is to make sure that the base of the aerial has a good earth.

I would have to assume that any difference on a bought uhf aerial that could be tuned out would would make only a marginal difference to the signal over the short distance a uhf reaches. I wonder how many people here have checked their swr anyway.

Good point obee !
Where are all the experts ??
As far as I know, ( to be corrected ! ) "all" UHF aerials are tuned !
But "all" in a big word,,!.
Cheers

Hi Zac
UHF aerials come in two types - ground independant and ones that are earthed.
The ground independant ones should require no tuning - and the other sort may require tuning depending on your mounting but usually require none.
So which antenna type did you get ?
