Aldi are selling winches again.

A couple of questions.

Are they any good?

I have a Smartbar which will support a winch.

I asked them and they said it was designed to support a Warn Winch.

But I can't afford one so was wandering if any one knew if the Aldi winch was similar to the warn (in dimensions). I know quality is different but I can't justify the $2000 or what ever for a Warn.

Also is it recommended to get a dual battery if you put in an electric winch.

Perhaps best option is to buy a hand winch and hope to God I never have to use it as I reckon it would kill me :)

Just fitted one I got off ebay for the same price delivered and its 12000lb instead of 9000. Otherwise looks pretty much same with all same features. Mine is about 7kg heavier though at 45kg. Works a treat.

Has been mentioned previously that ALDI are rebadged Ironman winches. I spoke to Ironman Clayton who confirmed this about 6 months ago, they do all the follow up warranty work on them.
In saying that I saw the ad yesterday and it looks a different winch, casing etc. Might be worth another phonecall.

Generally if they do not sell they drop off another 100 bucks after a couple of weeks to get rid of them. A risk that may be worth taking as they continue to pop up now and then. 3 year warranty is peace of mind but is worthless if it fails when you really need it to perform. BUT saying that i would buy one!

have a warn 12000 & I bought an adi winch for the trailer fits all the same holes & have not had a problem with it but it only drags cars & boats on to it & does get a lot hotter than the warn I would not like to trust it in a good bog & its also not very waterproof
