Hi out there to all you V 8 cruiser owners.
My question is, is anybody noticing if their new cruiser is using any oil between
services?
My reason for asking is one of our work V8s is using 1 litre per 1 thousand kms. This may be a one off but i don't think so.
The vehicle in question has just click over twenty thousand kms.
Cheers Phil

Hi Uncle Phil
I guess you are talking about the diesel V8
Ours has just turned over 30000 and uses no oil between
services
- not much fuel either

That is correct. Thanks for your reply.
We have two all ready and one more on order due in September.
It may have been a once off thing that we found no oil showing on the dip stick last week. We are keeping a closer eye on the oil levels now.

Hello Uncle Phil
At 10,000kms we headed off to
Perth from north coast NSW and up to 18000kms had used about 3.5lts. of engine oil. Nearly all of those k's were towing 1000kg. camper. Now at 23000kms oil consumption is negligible. All I have spoken to seem to have the same result.

Hey Uncle Phil
I just got of the phone to a mate of
mine that has a new 8500 km 200 series, and he said that it uses 1lt of oil every 1000 km.
Toyota told him today that this is the case, If you have a look in the owners manual he thinks it's page 268 or there abouts it tells you this will happen.
Cheers Steve.

-> Engine oil consumption
-The amount of engine oil consumed depends on the oil viscosity, the quality of the oil and the way the vehicle is driven.
-More oil is consumed under driving conditions such as high speeds and frequent acceleration and deceleration.
- A new engine consumes more oil.
-When judging teh amount of oil consumption, keep in mind that the oil may have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.
-Oil consumption: Max. 1.0l per 1000km (1.1 qt./600miles, 0.9lmp. qt./600
miles).
-If you consume more than 1.0l (1.1qt./0.9lmp. qt.) every 1000km (600
miles), contact your Toyota dealer.

Have two v8 troopy's at work and they used oil in the beginning but stopped somewhere between 1-2000 k's and have settled down to using very little now.....both have done 10 to 20,000 k's. But the first one had a gearbox change out at about 9000k's. Two of our hilux's have a lot of troubles BUT they do get hammered.....the fitters ute has 3 gearboxes...the lecky's engine troubles with the fuel injection....a lot of starter motor failures....and clutches.
We have tried all other types of vehicles and they don't last....all we buy is toyota now...cruisers, utes, troopy's, hilux's, prado's..despite the above issues they seem to be the only ones that can handle what we throw at them.

Uncle Phil,
RTFM - Read the manual.
It says quite clearly to expect usage of up to 1lt/1000km - any more and consult your doctor --errr Toyota.
Some of us have experienced that in the new 200 and 79 series. Nothing to worry about and it does seem to get better over time.

Thanks to all for your reply's.
You wouldn't think now days new vehicles would use that much oil.
I will advise our workers to keep a eye on the oil levels from now on.
Cheers.
