Picked up my new GU yesterday with Cooper ST's in the above size and see the front mud flaps will have to go cause one tyre scrubs on full lock. PITA as I am keen on the flaps for stone deflection in particular. Any suggestions?

Darren

Easy fixed, remove the inside screw and relocate the back end of the mudflap on the other side of the bracket space it out with a couple of nuts and put a small bolt and lock nut through it.
You will also need to cut a little section out of the inside of the mud flap in order to put a bolt through. Try it and you will see what I mean. I have BFG 285/70/17 and they don't rub anymore, If you get stuck I can email you a pic if needed. Hope this helps

Cheers

Hey ingo, did as you suggested and it worked a treat, mind you less than 10mm clearance on lock so could be a problem in the mud but overall very happy with the solution.

I was just pricing some new tyres today and was told that to fit the 285's properly, the car required a lift kit. As mine has a 2" lift, I was OK. That was a 285 75 16 which would be near the same size as yours with the 285 70 17.

Cheers. Mick

For trips I use 285x75x16 Goodyear MTRs on ROH steel wheels. I have removed the original mudflaps because they scrub the tyre and have fitted a trimmed standard mudflap. Looks OK and helps keep the mud off the car. You might find that you need to trim the rear arch above the tyre as well.
