We have just purchased a 1994 Oka bus, which we are converting to a camper.
Anyone out there with an Oka that has any tips or advice? Also interested in joining Oka Club have been told there is one, anybody with any information??

We had one in the Rural Fire Service, and the thing swayed from side to side like you were driving a marshmallow! We only had the one shock not the 2 per corner, which would I think have made a great difference. For some reason they wouldnt do it.... oh well.

We carried max legal weight on it with full tank of water, everything was low down, and it was a fantastic thing offroad, we had lots of sand dunes around Kurnell, and it was very suprisingly good. Ugly as a hat full of bums fully setup, but very good.

Thre are lots of tour operators using them, but apparently parts are a problem for them, with majority of tour operators buying anything and everything in the way of spares that come up. We nevre had a problem, or anythign go wrong with the truck.

Search the archives here, comes up with a post with info on the group and phone numbers.

Johlau,

As it happens there is a guy living in Broome, Collyn Rivers, who is an engineer and technical writer of great repute. He is also the proud owner of an OKA he's had for about 10 years and bult up as a motorhome. He doesn't bother to fly to the east coast when business calls, he just sets off cross country. Done it three times in the last 18 months and all he every does is regular servicing and fill her up with enough diesel to do the trip with one or zero fills.

You can learn all about it in his books at www.caravanandmotorhomebooks.com

I strongly recommend his books to anyone who wants to study up on setting up campervans, motorhomes and forbies for offroad solar powered camping. He is the best in the world in this field and practices what he preaches. His own OKA is a mobile test bed and featured in his books.

Lucky you having an OKA to build on!! Many of the advneture tour operators up here in Kimberley swear by them.
