Hi andoman

Nothing wrong with the Qualcomm as far as satellite phones go. However the bigger problem is that they only work thru Globalstar satellites, and Globalstar has been having some problems with satellite antenna degradation over the last couple of years. But it does vary around the country, so you need to give it all some good research for the areas you want to use it. Do a search on satellite phones etc on this forum, look at the satellite availability on the Pivotel website, etc to see what you'll get and whether it's for you. Many people on this forum only recommend the Motorola 9505 series phones, through the Iridium network, using a normal SIM card with international roaming. These phones are more expensive though even 2nd hand.

Cheers, John

Might also suggest you look at Thuraya (www.thuraya.com) as they have put up a satellite recently which will cover Australia too. However they have yet to set up Aust. agents, so it depends on how soon you want the phone.
