Just talking to Willem who is at Balgo -about 300km south of Halls Creek.

Maybe, just maybe, Telstra are getting their act together..

BTW Willem and party are on the way back, expecting to be at
Alice by the weekend and by all accounts have had one hell of a good time.

Cheers
Michael

Good to hear , I was sailing between Flinders Island (TAS) and Wilsons Prom over the weekend and had coverage most of the way using an external antenna.

Dont expect any of the other telcos (foreign) to bother to provide a service. They only want the easy money from US. Its easy to jump on the Packer bandwagon of knocking the big T , but at least its ours.....cheers,

Hi Michael,

Do you know whether he took his trailer with him?

He did well if he did.

Hi equinox,

Yes Willem took his trailer, only problem was with the frame that
the canopy sits over..bit of a reweld jobbie coming up I think.

I sure he will 'tell all' when he gets back home.

Cheers

They are putting up towers flat out. We now have one at work so next g actually outperforms GSM finally.
I have noticed full reception where previosly there was none/little in a few spots indicating new towers.
Seems to be there answer to inferior reception to CDMA is chuck up alot more towers

Hi Michael J,

Last Nov I was talking to a couple of Telstra contractors in Broken hill who were replacing the solar units on all the Telstra towers in the area out there and I asked them what was the story re Next G verses CDMA. They said that both CDMA and Next G were using the same antennae and because of that they had to balance the signal from both to 4 each watts up the stick.

The problem was that they could not increase the power of Next G till they were able to turn off CDMA. To do so would have meant blowing the outputs on the CDMA transmitters.

They have now turned off CDMA and upped the power for Next G and that is why it is working much better - according to them.

Regards,
Bruce
