can anyone tell me if possible ,the part/part number from Toyota, of the said 'fuel dampener' required to adress this annoying noise that local Toyota dealers claim ignorance of. Appreciate any useful info. Cape adventure in 6 weeks.

I always thought they were a windup toy.

It's just a wind-up.

If its a petrol engine, just double the length of fuel return hose. The commodore V6's were common for this and by doubling the line length seemed to fix it.

The fuel hammer fix was for the first of the HDJ78/79 series cruisers

Is this what you have ????

As Don has said, the fuel pipe vibration was a problem with the first of the HDJ78/79's.

The fix is to fit the dampener that Toyota supplied from 2003 onwards. Toyota did it on mine after I demonstrated the noise.
It looks like this:

Mine 2003 does it too. SOunds like a exhaust brake. Cuts in on deceleration at about 1200 rpm and stops aging at 1050 rpm. Once warm it does not happen. Does not bother me now, I know what it is

The part numbers needed for the damper, hoses & clamps are in a TSB (technical service bulletin) that any dealer can access

The damper is fitted inline in the fuel pipe (replacing a hose) & takes about 15-20 mins to fit
