I have a friend looking into a toyota 4runner which has done roughly 200 000 and was built in between the period of 1985-1990. From his description its been raised like a bitch, and has got all the heavy four wheel driving gear fitted to it. Would anyone have an idea of what a second hand model would cost, and are there any major problems he should be aware of.

I think that you will find most insurance companies will cover you with up to 50mm lift - beyond that 'forget it'!

Diesel is worth more than petrol, if it's a petrol and done heavy work I'd want to know a bit more about that particular engine type before buying it with those k's (sorry, can't help you with that, only had to do with diesel ones). My 2.8 diesel just had to get rebuilt at about 240K klicks, but that was a bit unusual - the harmonic balancer fell off and damaged the end of the crankshaft! But if it's going well and not blowing a lot of smoke 200K on a diesel is probably fine. Brother-in-law had quite a nice one, 86 model I think, that he sold about 3 or so years ago, diesel, about 250K klicks - I think he only got $6500 or so for it in the end, had trouble getting more.
