Where is a good place for an overnight stay between Kunnurra and Fitzroy Crossing. Having read about the parks at Halls Creek and Old Halls Creek I am wary of staying there.

A lot of visitors to the Bungle Bungles stop overnight at Spring Creek, just South of the Bungles turn off. Nice area, but I don't think there are any facilities there yet.

I'd hardly think El Questro is between Kunnanurra and Fitzroy Crossing.

And expensive - debating whether we include El Questro in our GRR intinerary.

Motherhen.Camping at El Questro is really not expensive. If your going to be in that part of the wor;d, you should gp there. The Chaimberlaine River tour is worth the money, and don't miss Emma Gorge. Just my views anyway. Love the photos on your Profile. Cheers.
Roger.

Zero the trip meter when you cross the Ord River Dam . at 246Klm and 254Klm there are two good Rest Area's , they will at this time of year have a few travellers in them.
Another is 463Klm

If you want to stay at a caravan park then I don't think there are any security problems at Halls Creek. We stayed there 3 years ago. The park is a bit run down but the showers were clean. You could hear the locals partying on outside but none came in the park any further than the shop. We did not feel unsafe there at any time, possibly someone else has some more recent experience. Warmun (Turkey Creek) caravan park is not flash but it was full at lunch time when we passed through there last year.

If you wish to camp in a rest area there are several between Warmun and Fitzroy (as Doug mentioned.) They are listed in Camps Australia Wide - get yourself a copy.

Avan,

The camping spot mentioned opposite the entrance to the Bungle Bungles is quite good. A lot of people stay there and do day trips in.

We've camped a few times at the Halls Creek caravan park and found it ok. As was said previously, there may be some noise from the locals but there were no problems in the park. Amenities ok too. Out the Old Halls Creek side there are some good spots such as Sawpit Gorge and Caroline Pool to bush camp.

Between Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing there is a large rest area near the Mary River... I think its called Mary Pool rest area. This seems to be a popular stopping place for many travellers. It's about a 100kms west of Halls Creek.

Best wishes

Viv

you could also pop down to Wolfe Creek crater. We were going to do that had the rain not stopped us going across the tanami. So we went straight through to Kununurra.

If you wanted a stop, I seem to recall the rest area before the Bungles turnoff (that others have mentioned) was below the road and quite a nice area.

I travel alone between Broome and Wyndham quite alot and i reckon best place to stay would be Mary River. Beautiful spot, i have stayed there before, lovely place. I pull in every time i go past to stop and have a stretch and something to eat. Does get packed out pretty quick, but there is planty of room. And yeah its about 110k from Halls Creek heading to Fitzroy.
