I'm thinking of heading out to
Birdsville from
brisbane at the christmas holidays. Any one got any suggestions of

birdsville but along the way
cheers

If you have the time, stay for a day in some of those small outback towns that you come to (such as
Windorah) - great to see how people make their livings out there - I'd be taking a yabby net or two and some fishing gear to try in all of those outback waterways - such as the
Warrego, Bulloo and the Thompson....... re Xmas ? Do you like it hot ? The further west the more remote too - some parts out there are as bleak as the moon....... be prepared for the outback, in every way !

If you can get up to Undarra Lava Caves, they are quite spectacular & the
camp grounds (restaurant & drinking hole) are interesting. As the previous thread said, summer out there is unforgiving.
Cheers

Undarra is a long way from Birdsvile or
Brisbane, in fact
Brisbane is a lot closer.

At that time of year you might need the airconditioned motel at
Windorah at the back of the pub. Best accommodation out that way for
miles.
Plenty to see at
places like
Charleville,
Quilpie,
Windorah etc.
You do not say if you are using tent, van, motels etc.
It most probably will be VERY hot. If do go then make sure you have plenty of water on board and vehicle is in tip top condition.
Another place of interest might be the
Page family grave. A family that died while driving the
Birdsville track in the middle of summer and now they are buried near the side of the track.
You might find Ruth D on the
forum who can tell you about
Birdsville in summer.

If it is open in the middle of summer - the working museum at
Birdsville is first class and
well worth a visit.

HOT, hot and windy, hot and dusty. Hi Alan. Christmas holidays - probably won't be anyone left here - we all go to
the beach!

Don't
camp at
Windorah. As already posted, the air con pub or failing that, an aircon cabin is the way to go. Also the meals at the pub are great.
