Hi could any one tell me what a toyota surf 2.4td auto 1990 would legally tow as looking to buy one and have a camper. Thanks

I also found this answer for later models on a UK forum .....

....."Not sure this is of any use but the figures for the 2003 model Toyota Hilux 4wd pickup (4-droor, '270' model) are as follows:

Unladen weight: 1715kgs
Gross vehicle weight plated 2780kg
Gross train weight (car + trailer) 4675kg
Towing capacities: 2250kg braked, 750kg unbraked."

Be aware this model had overheating problems, as they where never designed to operate in Aust. The latter 3l where better or better again get a 4runner which had much bigger radiators etc.

A lot of these were imported from Japan into New Zealand and their favourite trick was to break crankshafts with monotonous regularity. THis was the 2.4 motor The later bigger engines were OK
